Best Laptops for Virtualization (best laptop for running multiple VMS)

Virtualization is and will continue to be the future of modern computing in years to come. And because it is a process that needs consolidation into one powerful machine, the computational power has to be able enough to bear the load of a series of servers.

Hence, we are talking about laptops that are known for performance. And here is how you spot one:

1. CPU
Along with the virtualization process itself, there are several other security and support processes that run along. All in all, it does demand a lot of multi-core processing. Hence, the latest generation quad-core i7 processor is the least we would want you to look for. If AMD is your preference, you might want to restrain yourself to at least the upper-end AMD R5 series processors.

2. RAM
An indispensable component of a virtualization system is a powerful RAM capacity to support multi-tasking and in the near future ‘mega-tasking’. However, not too much RAM is required for virtualization and 4GB is the bottom line. For optimum performance, 8GB would suffice and 16GB could be required if it’s a big system that your hardware houses.

3. Size
A full-sized laptop with a full-sized keyboard and chassis is what we would recommend if you are planning to build a workstation. And that is because of two reasons; first, it is easier to perform operations quickly on a full-sized keyboard. Secondly, heat dissipation becomes easier with a larger chassis as you can install more fans than the default number.

4. Storage
For virtualization purpose, storage of 1TB is advised to enable you to store and manage the system framework aptly. File indexing plays a partial role in the process and it is feasible to have SSD storage for the purpose, as it facilitates faster boot. And when it comes to virtualization, boot time and deployability matters.

5. Operating System
As technology is yet quite new to the world, laptops with an older version of Windows or MacOS are redundant. Better drivers, connectivity and similar factors are available in the newer versions. So, in the case of Windows, look for Windows 8 and above, positively. And in the case of Apple, the newer it is, the better it is.

6. Screen size
Although screen size doesn’t really matter when it comes to virtualization, it still is easier to monitor on a bigger screen. In this regard, avoid 10-inch and 11.6” laptops and to be precise look for 14” and more.
